In fierce dissent of the Trump administration's final push of federal executions, Justice Sonia Sotomayor said, “The Federal Government will have executed more than three times as many people in the last six months than it had in the previous six decades.”
We agree with Sotomayor. “This is not justice.”
In its final hours, the Trump administration prioritized executing as many Americans as possible.
While Joe Biden pledged to halt federal executions, progressives don't think it's enough. That's why Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is calling for more expansive action to abolish the death penalty entirely, and Senate Democrats have introduced legislation to do just that and recommute sentences for inmates on death row.
We're proud to stand with Justice Sotomayor and Rep. Ocasio-Cortez in denouncing state-sanctioned murder, but as we think about legislative solutions to this issue, it's important we know where supporters like you stand.
