Collapsed economy. State violence. Food, medicine, fuel shortages. Blackouts. Sanctions. Threats of war. And now, the COVID-19 pandemic.
Millions of Venezuelans are facing one of the largest humanitarian and displacement crises in the world. And the U.S. helped create this nightmare.
Today we have a chance to join with a movement of progressive partners pushing to designate Temporary Protective Status (TPS) for Venezuela.
Because luckily, the House already passed a nonpartisan bill calling for TPS for Venezuela. And now it’s the Senate’s turn.
Are you ready to get loud?
Ask Senator Elizabeth Warren to co-sponsor bill S.636 calling for TPS for Venezuela NOW!
Doctors in Venezuela report most hospitals lack basic medical supplies to respond to the COVID-19 outbreak — including soap and running water. That’s because the crisis in Venezuela was dire before this pandemic ever began.
Venezuelans already faced extreme medical supply shortages and a collapsed healthcare infrastructure. Devastating U.S. sanctions had helped collapse the Venezuelan economy. There have been food and fuel shortages. Venezuelans already faced mass state violence, torture, and other human rights abuses from their government, and threats of bombing, regime change, and war from our government.
So the very notion of deporting Venezuelan families in the United States back to this nightmare — especially elders and people with existing health issues — is UNCONSCIONABLE.
TPS would be a life-line for hundreds of thousands of Venezuelans. It would help protect Venezuelans seeking safety in the U.S. from arrest, detention, deportation, unemployment, family separation, starvation, and the risk of death.
That’s why we have to act now and we have to act fast — and we have momentum. The House already passed a similar bill, and now the Senate needs to join this nonpartisan movement. Will you add your voice to help win this life-line for Venezuelan families?
Ask Senator Elizabeth Warren to co-sponsor S.636 calling for TPS for Venezuela today!
There will never be a progressive foreign policy without a progressive domestic policy. And we can’t claim to support Venezuelans inside their borders if we don’t have solidarity with them when they are inside U.S. borders. We need to do better than this, especially now. Will you join me in building the kind of world we desperately need?
Thank you for working for peace,
