MASSterList Biweekly Digest - What you read the most!
1 - Nantucket’s ‘Lord of the Flies’
The severe coronavirus outbreak on Nantucket hasn’t exactly brought out the best in some residents living on one of the nation’s richest resort islands, according to Erin Banco at Yahoo News.
2 - One thing everyone can agree on about Robert DeLeo: He’s no ‘Iron Duke’
Say what you will about the Herald’s Howie Carr, he’s often a font of political trivia and history, including the legal history of Massachusetts House speakers stretching all the way back to John Forbes “Iron Duke” Thompson in the 1960s. Never heard of the Iron Duke from Ludlow? Now you have. Howie drops lots of other seemingly forgotten names as well.
3 - The list of candidates eyeing DeLeo’s House seat grows longer
Still no definitive word when or if House Speaker Robert DeLeo plans to leave the State House for a job at Northeastern University, though Senate President Karen Spilka is talking like he’s a goner and will be missed. But we do know this: A lot of people are eying a run for DeLeo’s House seat, reports the Herald’s Erin Tiernan, who has a full list of the potential candidates.
4 - Now they tell us: Disinfecting surfaces really doesn’t matter much
After stuffing our kitchen-sink cabinet with lord knows how many household cleaners and disinfectants, now they tell us that cleaning surfaces doesn’t really matter during the pandemic? NPR’s Patti Neighmond has more at GBH on what scientists are now saying about cleaning and re-cleaning all those surfaces in your home.
At least we can now call off our search for the Holy Grail of Hoarding: Formula 409.
