What economists say will happen next

New York Times: “Advisers to President-elect Joseph R. Biden Jr. are planning for the increasing likelihood that the United States economy is headed for a ‘double-dip’ recession early next year. They are pushing for Democratic leaders in Congress to reach a quick stimulus deal with Senate Republicans, even if it falls short of the larger package Democrats have been seeking, according to people familiar with the discussions.”

Economists, including the ones on President-elect Biden’s own team, are urging action now. Luckily, our next president is already taking a dramatically different tone than Trump took with Congress. Instead of encouraging division, Biden is calling for compromise, saying: “Refusal of Democrats, Republicans to cooperate with one another is not due to some mysterious force beyond our control. It’s a conscious decision. It’s a choice that we make. If we can decide not to cooperate, we could decide to cooperate.”

We agree. But Congress doesn’t care what the president says (we’ve seen enough evidence of that). Congress cares what the American people say -- because the American people will decide whether or not they keep their jobs. So please, could you weigh in on what you’d like to see from your representatives?

Thank you for participating in our survey.
