Imagine the biggest, most lush and unspoiled forest you've ever seen. Towering trees, hundreds of years old, sheltering sparkling streams and endangered woodland caribou, grizzly bears, birds and wolves. Now imagine that same magnificent forest reduced to a vast wasteland of tree stumps and mud. That's exactly what's happening to a million acres of the boreal forest stretching across Canada and Alaska every year -- much of it to be sliced into two-by-fours and sold at your local home improvement store.1 But we can build decks and floors without destroying the priceless boreal forest -- and we've launched a nationwide campaign calling on Ace Hardware, one of the biggest players in the home-improvement market, to not sell wood from the boreal forest. Help us ramp up our campaign to tell Ace Hardware: Don't chop down the boreal forest. The boreal is the world's largest remaining intact forest. It's a haven for wildlife: More than 3 billion birds fly north to use the boreal as a nursery each year, and the endangered woodland caribou can be found nowhere else on earth.2 It's also an ally in the fight to preserve our climate: Boreal trees absorb enough carbon every year to offset the emissions of 24 million cars.3 Above all, it's an irreplaceable piece of the wilderness that makes the planet we share so special. So what's our plan to save it? Convince big retailers like Ace Hardware to simply get their wood from somewhere else. As a large nationwide retailer, Ace Hardware can not only keep more boreal trees standing -- it could also inspire a wave of sustainable change in the home-improvement industry. But it will take a major campaign effort to make this kind of change happen, and we rely on grassroots supporters like you to power everything we do. Make a donation to help us tell Ace Hardware: Don't chop down the boreal forest! Thank you, The Environmental Action team Your donation will be used to stand up for wildlife and the wild places they call home, and to support all of our campaigns to protect our environment. The generosity of people just like you is what makes all of our work possible. | |
