In the halls of Congress and from across the country, we’re letting Senators and Representatives know that the American people demand millionaires and billionaires start paying their fair share. Now, thanks to our work together, we’ve helped generate more congressional co-sponsors of a wealth tax than ever before. That’s right! 45+ members of Congress have signed onto Sen. Elizabeth Warren and Rep. Pramila Jayapal’s Ultra-Millionaire Tax Act which would apply a small annual tax on extreme wealth, affecting only the wealthiest 0.15% of households. It would address massive wealth accumulation at the very top and generate $6.2 trillion in new revenue over the next decade. That’s money that can be used to expand access to childcare, housing, healthcare, and education while easing financial pressure on working people. Whether it’s Elizabeth Warren’s Ultra-Millionaire Tax Act, Bernie Sanders’s Make Billionaires Pay Their Fair Share Act, or Ron Wyden’s Billionaires Income Tax, we’re demanding Congress act to ensure ultra-millionaires and billionaires are paying their fair share in taxes every year, not just when they feel like it. Power our campaign to demand the ultra-wealthy finally start paying their fair share. Donate today! Elizabeth Warren and Rep. Pramila Jayapal’s wealth tax now has more congressional co-sponsors than any wealth tax proposal in U.S. history.[1] Momentum like this does not happen by accident. That kind of support is the result of sustained pressure, organizing, and thousands of people refusing to accept a system where billionaires keep getting richer while working families struggle. We helped make that happen. Americans for Tax Fairness worked directly with congressional offices to build support for this bill, and we backed it up with more than 14,000 grassroots signatures demanding action. Lawmakers are responding because they know the public is paying attention and demanding that the ultra-wealthy finally pay their fair share. And the need could not be clearer. Billionaire wealth has now topped $8 trillion, exploding by $1.5 trillion in Trump’s first year back in office.[2] That wealth grew due to a tax code full of loopholes that allow the richest people in this country to contribute far less than their fair share and in some cases less than working families. A wealth tax targets extreme concentrations of wealth, and ensures wealthy households are paying taxes every year, not just when they feel like it. This is a turning point moment. For years, opponents claimed a wealth tax could never gain traction in Congress. Now, with more than 45 lawmakers backing this legislation, that excuse is gone. What happens next depends on whether we keep building pressure or let this momentum stall. We know what works because we’ve done it before. When we organize, when we show up with real numbers and real people behind us, lawmakers move. That’s how we helped build support for this bill. That’s how we got 14,000 people to demand action. And that’s how we will continue to push until we get this over the finish line. But the opposition is already mobilizing. Billionaire-funded lobbyists and corporate interests are working behind the scenes to kill this legislation before it can move forward. The wealthy elite understand exactly what this bill represents: a direct challenge to a rigged system that has allowed them to avoid paying their fair share for decades. We cannot let them win this fight.
