SHARING TO INFORM AND EDUCATE ABOUT WASHINGTON D.C.!
Today marks a major victory for D.C. residents and for real accountability in our city as we continue to feel the wrath of federal agents patrolling our city. For too long, D.C. has been subjected to aggressive and opaque coordination between MPD and federal agents operating in our neighborhoods. Communities have been left in the dark while masked officers carried out actions with little transparency and even less accountability.
That changes today.
At my insistence, the D.C. Council voted unanimously to override a politically motivated veto by outgoing Mayor Muriel Bowser and enact the “Full Accountability in Arrest Reporting Amendment Act of 2026.” This law delivers what should have always been the standard: full transparency in police reporting.
When federal officers are present, and especially when they use force, that information must now be clearly documented in MPD police reports. No omissions. No ambiguity. No hiding behind incomplete records.
Because the truth is that body-worn camera footage alone is not enough. Footage can be delayed. It can be limited. It can leave critical questions unanswered.
Now, the facts must be written into the official record, exactly where they belong.
This is a victory for transparency.
A victory for accountability.
And a victory for every D.C. resident who has demanded answers in the face of fear, confusion, and unchecked federal overreach.
Let me be clear: no one, no matter the badge they wear, operates above the law in our city.
I’m proud my colleagues on the Council voted unanimously to choose transparency over politics and stood up for the people of Washington, D.C.
With thanks, Robert |
