Wins For The People and Losses For Trump’s Authoritarian Fantasy Oregon sues, protesters mobilize, Biden honors vets, and Rep. moves to impeach Kennedy Scott Dworkin Sep 29 As we jump into another week of Trump’s rampant abuse of power, I’m happy to share some truly powerful stories from the resistance. From Oregon’s swift legal challenge against unconstitutional troop deployments, to protests in Tennessee and Portland, people are mobilizing—and they’re not backing down. Neither are we. OREGON SUES Within hours of Trump’s order to deploy troops to Portland, officials in Oregon filed a federal lawsuit to push back. The suit seeks to block the deployment, arguing: “By singling out a particular disfavored jurisdiction for political retribution, these actions also eviscerate the constitutional principle that the states’ sovereignty should be treated equally.” PORTLAND PROTESTS In response to Trump’s order, around 100 protesters in Portland marched to a local ICE building. Demonstrators, including religious leaders and community organizers, carried flowers to convey their desire for peace. Earlier in the day, hundreds of folks protested outside the same ICE facility. The crowd chanted “Say it loud, say it clear: ICE is not welcome here,” and “Feds out of Portland.” TENNESSEE GETS LOUD Peaceful rallies also took place across Tennessee this weekend to speak out against Trump’s order to send troops to Memphis as early as today. Dubbed the “Free 901 Protest,” demonstrators danced, sang, and held signs denouncing the deployment. Protester Lisa Weinger stated that Trump’s move is “unconstitutional, and we have to stand up to that or it’s just gonna get worse.” Absolutely. BIDEN HONORS VETS On Saturday, former President Joe Biden honored Veterans at a Delaware event called Vet Fest. Biden slammed Trump’s attacks on the military and those who have served, saying: “What [Trump’s] doing ... it’s wrong … the idea of cutting health care, Veterans benefits—it’s outrageous; it’s got to stop.” ADAMS OUT Embattled NYC Mayor Eric Adams dropped his bid for reelection Sunday. Now it will be more of a head-to-head contest between Democratic nominee Zohran Mamdani and independent Andrew Cuomo—the Republican has no shot. On the exit of Adams, Mamdani stated: “Donald Trump and his billionaire donors might be able to determine Eric Adams’ and Andrew Cuomo’s actions but they will not dictate the results of this election.” He’s right. IMPEACHING BOB KENNEDY   RFK JR Dem Rep. Haley Stevens announced plans to file articles of impeachment against Bob Kennedy for his “health care chaos.” Stevens said: “Kennedy has violated his oath of office and proven himself unfit to serve the American people. Congress must act to hold him accountable, and I intend to lead the charge to remove him from office.” There aren’t enough votes to make it happen just yet, few are more deserving of impeachment than Bob Kennedy.
