In February, Tilly made a daring leap, literally. She jumped off a truck headed for slaughter and landed on the side of a highway. Bruised and limping, she was found by a Good Samaritan who ensured she made it to safety. A wildlife rehabilitator cared for Tilly, but broad-breasted turkeys like her require specialized care. Sadly, her foot, shattered from the jump, was misdiagnosed as an infection and went untreated for four months. When she arrived at Animal Place, x-rays revealed multiple fractures and a bone infection in her right foot. She’s also severely overweight, tipping the scale at 27 pounds. For comparison, our other turkeys weigh closer to 13-14 pounds. Tilly will need to shed about 12 pounds to live her best life. She’s now on a special diet and has already won over our hearts with her sweet, gentle spirit. Donate today, and your gift DOUBLES for Tilly. |

Bert is 9 Years Rescued 🎉 |
This month, we’re celebrating a very special milestone, Bert’s 9th rescue anniversary at Animal Place! Bert was saved from a life of neglect and has spent nearly a decade enjoying the peace, comfort, and love he deserves. To mark the occasion, he’s been strutting his stuff around the sanctuary and showing off that adorable snout of his (we dare you not to smile). Despite the summer heat, Bert is soaking up the sunshine, taking strolls, and enjoying his favorite treats. Here’s to many more years of belly rubs, mud baths, and happy grunts. We love you, Bert! |

Pecky’s Got a New Favorite Perch |
Meet Pecky, one of our most spirited rescued birds! She has decided that caregiver Jake makes the perfect mobile perch. Whether he’s feeding the pigs, hauling hay, or cleaning out a barn, Pecky is right there with him, usually on his back, offering “supervision” from above. It’s not uncommon to see Jake walking around the barn with a feathery friend hitching a ride. And while Pecky may be small, she makes a big impression with her bold personality and charm. She’s a daily reminder that every animal, no matter their size, deserves compassion, care, and the freedom to express their unique selves. For Pecky, that means plenty of attention and the occasional snack (or attempt to steal one). |

Zinnia’s Settling In, One Shoe at a Time |
| Zinnia, one of our newest residents, only six weeks old, is thriving in her new sanctuary home! She’s getting more comfortable by the day…maybe a little too comfortable. The other morning, she decided to show her affection in the most Zinnia way possible, by trying to eat our Development Director Marji’s shoe! (Don’t worry, both Marji and the shoe survived.) From curious nibbles to sun-soaked naps, Zinnia is quickly becoming a sanctuary favorite. Watching her blossom in a safe, loving environment reminds us why we do this work. |

Legacy Heritage Celebrates Community and Culture with Plant-Based Garden Launch |
Consuelo Bradley, president of Legacy Heritage in Alabama, received our Food for Thought Vegan Event Grant for their community garden grand opening. We spoke with Consuelo about the success of their event: "Hosting a plant-based event...helped us demonstrate that plant-based eating is not just a trend but a lifestyle rooted in culture and care for the planet. We are excited to continue incorporating plant-based meals into future events and programming. We found that plant-based catering was more affordable overall, especially when we sourced ingredients locally and prepared food in-house...By focusing on whole, plant-based ingredients like legumes and vegetables, we reduced costs compared to traditional catering. Our donation amount increased compared to previous non-plant-based events." Read the full interview here! |
