In his first term, Donald Trump appointed over 200 judges and packed the Supreme Court with three MAGA justices. In the coming weeks, Trump will appoint even more judges—and they’re expected to be younger and more loyal to Trump than ever before.1 Now, Congressional Republicans are pushing the JUDGES Act, a bill that would create 22 new federal judgeships for Trump to fill before his term is up. They’re hell-bent on giving him even more unchecked power and influence over the judiciary. Trump’s impact on our judicial system has already been devastating. The MAGA-packed Court has spent the last four years ripping at the fabric of our democracy—gutting voting rights, overturning Roe v. Wade, allowing billionaires to buy our elections, and even granting broad presidential immunity. We can’t afford to let Trump rubber-stamp nearly two dozen loyal MAGA judges that could make life harder for the communities hardest hit by his hateful agenda. The last Congress agreed that we need more federal judgeships. Usually, these bills are passed in good faith before elections, without knowing which party will benefit. But the MAGA-controlled House of Representatives refused to pass the bill until Trump was elected, so they could be sure he could gain more unchecked power. Since the bill was originally a bipartisan effort, there could still be enough Democratic support to get it over the finish line. But now that Trump has pushed us into a full-blown constitutional crisis, Democrats should hold the line and oppose the JUDGES Act. Thank you for fighting back against the JUDGES Act, Morgan Stahr |

Now that Trump is back in the Oval Office, he’s doubling down on the MAGA takeover of the courts. He’s declared ideological war on members of the judicial branch that dare try to hold him accountable. He’s ignoring orders from lower courts and the Supreme Court alike, and threatening to impeach judges who disagree with him. To make matters worse, Congressional Republicans are trying to give him 22 more judgeships to fill, allowing him to install loyalists, evade accountability, and reshape our laws and our very democracy. Our friends, family, and neighbors in vulnerable communities are hit hardest by Trump’s reshaping of the judiciary—and 22 more MAGA judgeships would have the power to make their lives for decades to come.
