WRITE TO ICE: REUNITE NORELIA AND CESAR WITH THEIR CHILDREN »
Dear Tony, We are building momentum to help free a Venezuelan mother and father locked up unjustly by ICE — and today, we need all hands on deck: Here’s what happened: last week, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detained Cesar and Norelia, parents of three young children under 13-years-old, in Washington, D.C. The family fled political persecution in Venezuela two years ago and applied for asylum. Despite having Temporary Protected Status and pending asylum applications, they were charged with illegal entry. Here’s what we’re doing: Amnesty is fighting to free Cesar and Norelia — who are not only separated from their children, but also separated from each other in different ICE detention facilities. We’re activating our supporters around the world and across the country — send your message to ICE’s acting director today. It takes only one minute and your pressure, combined with tens of thousands of others, can help secure their release.

President Trump’s mass detention and deportation machine is deeply inhumane and catastrophic — and Cesar and Norelia are just two of the many people who have been torn from their communities in recent weeks. The case of the Turkish student who was recently pulled off the street in Boston by masked federal officers and detained is not unlike the raids happening in communities across the country, as the administration continues its horrifying and unlawful targeting of immigrants and international students. With instances like these becoming more frequent, we have to put ICE on notice. Act now. Tony, it may seem like an impossible feat, but when we come together, we CAN make progress. Last month, when Norelia and Cesar were initially picked up by ICE and criminally charged for simply seeking safety in the U.S., efforts from advocates, led by Amnesty, led to their prompt release. Now, they are unjustly detained again — and we need your help to secure their permanent release and ensure that they're reunited with their children. Everyone has the right to seek asylum, and Amnesty is working tirelessly to protect this right: We’re securing direct access to detention facilities in order to document and report on conditions and treatment. We’re sharing our research with lawmakers. We’re making sure the truth gets out to TV reporters and journalists. We’re packing courtrooms to show public support for those who have been unjustly detained. And we’re turning up the heat on ICE. We need the power of grassroots activism right now: please, help us flood the inboxes of ICE leadership today. Thank you,
Senior Director of Online Engagement P.S. Three young children will go to sleep tonight without their parents to tuck them in or read them bedtime stories. Join us to help secure Norelia and Cesar’s release from ICE.
