Bad news/Good news: Voter protection has never been more important

 

You can’t read the news this week without seeing evidence of the importance of voter protection: • Rolling Stone reported that at least 70 pro-Trump election-denialists are working as election officials in 16 counties in key battleground states: Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania. • On Tuesday, an election-denialist won the Republican primary for Maricopa County Recorder – one of the most populous counties in Arizona. • And the Georgia Secretary of State unveiled a new online “voter registration cancellation” form that requires only basic information to begin the process of canceling a voter’s registration. As the Democratic Party of Georgia said, the form is “ripe for abuse by right-wing activists who are already submitting mass voter challenges meant to disenfranchise Georgians.” All of that happened this week. The obvious bad news: it’s obvious that the election denialists are doubling down and ramping up their attacks.  The good news you might not know: voter protection teams are already on the ground in battleground states like Arizona, Georgia, and North Carolina – and they’re fighting for voters in real time.
