To honor the dead, to warn the living

Anyone who decries the removal of Confederate war memorials as denying our heritage should compare those statues that glorify Confederate soldiers with this statue at Dachau, Germany. It seeks not to conceal Germany’s history, but to recognize it for what it really was. The words carved into the base say it all: To honor the dead, to warn the living.
