Calvin Duncan spent 28 years in a Louisiana prison for a crime he did not commit. 28 years.  He didn't break. He studied law from behind bars. He fought for other incarcerated people to access court records. He won a landmark U.S. Supreme Court ruling ending non-unanimous jury convictions. And in 2021, a judge finally did what should have been done decades earlier: threw out his conviction entirely. Then Calvin Duncan did something remarkable.  He ran for office. He went back to the very criminal court system that swallowed his life and said: I'm going to fix it from the inside. The people of New Orleans heard him. They gave him 68% of the vote. It was supposed to be the end of a long, brutal story. A man wronged by the system, returning to reform it. The kind of thing you'd see in a movie. But this is Louisiana under MAGA control: Last week, MAGA rammed through a bill to eliminate Calvin Duncan's office entirely. They are trying to erase the position before he can even be sworn in on May 4.  This is what we're up against in Louisiana.  The far-right here is so cruel and psychopathic that they'd rather torch an entire democratically elected office than let an exonerated black man use it to reform a broken criminal justice system that stole 28 years of his life. That's why the Louisiana Democratic Party just launched Organize Louisiana, the most ambitious statewide organizing program in the history of this state. Boots on the ground in all 4,000-plus precincts across this state.  Voters across Louisiana are watching what MAGA is doing to Calvin Duncan. They're watching what MAGA is doing to this country. And they are furious. Now is our moment to take Louisiana back. We are positioning for a major comeback.
