SHARED TO INFORM AND EDUCATE ABOUT A SIGNIFICANT ISSUE IN THE
WISCONSIN SUPREME COURT ELECTION ON APRIL 7.
Even though Wisconsin has been one of the premier swing states in the nation for over two decades now, Team Blue is on the verge of securing a stranglehold over the Wisconsin Supreme Court that will last into the next decade. On Tuesday, April 7, only six days from today--liberal candidate Chris Taylor is up against conservative Maria Lazar in the 2026 Wisconsin Supreme Court election. If Taylor prevails, she would increase the liberal majority on the court from the current 4-3 margin to a much safer 5-2 advantage, thus securing a liberal majority on the highest court in a crucial swing state that will last through at least 2030. However, that might actually be understating the degree to which not only a win, but a big win for Taylor could lock up Wisconsin's highest court for Team Blue (I write "Team Blue" instead of "Democrats," because the Wisconsin Supreme Court is technically nonpartisan). In the 2026 election, national conservatives have not really done much to help Lazar. The reason for this is because, after Elon Musk spent tens of millions on the 2025 Wisconsin Supreme Court election last year and lost by 10 points anyway, most of them just see Wisconsin as a hopeless cause right now. In fact, the only reason Lazar is even running is because conservative incumbent Rebecca Bradley retired instead of facing the voters in the midst of a strongly pro-Democratic electoral environment. With another conservative-held seat on the Wisconsin Supreme Court up for election next year, a big win by Taylor in 2026 could cause the same pattern to unfold, thus allowing Democrats to practically waltz to a 6-1 majority that would last through at least 2033. The Wisconsin Supreme Court will rule on any challenges to the 2028 or 2032 presidential elections in this perennially crucial swing state. It will also rule on the ongoing legal case against the 6-2 Republican gerrymander of the Wisconsin's congressional districts, a case that will be heard next year. Thus, this election is a key battle in the fight against Republican attempts to preordain the outcomes of our elections nationwide. I have put together an ActBlue page that allows you to split a donation between liberal Wisconsin Supreme Court candidate Chris Taylor and Bowers Kerbel Media, the two-person organization that runs both the Bowers News Media news and activism email list, and the Wolves and Sheep political analysis and practical life advice Substack. On this page, the amount that you donate to each entity can be adjusted by clicking "customize amounts." No donation to Bowers Kerbel Media is required in order to donate to Chris Talyor. You can also donate to Chris Taylor directly here. Please, split a $10 donation between Chris Taylor for Wisconsin Supreme Court and Bowers Kerbel Media. Help secure a liberal majority for both the 2028 and 2023 elections on the highest court in a crucial swing state. Thank you for your time, Chris Bowers Founder, Bowers News Media **** About Bowers News Media is a one-person grassroots activism email list, run by me, Chris Bowers, a 20-year veteran of online progressive politics at Daily Kos, Open Left and MyDD. I write all of the emails myself, in an honest, measured, personal voice, citing all of my sources and avoiding exaggeration. I aim to bring you the most efficient activism operation around, almost entirely free of overhead, and to always remain accessible to you by reading every single email you send me (and replying to most of them). Wolves and Sheep is a Substack run by Matthew Kerbel, a political science professor of over 30 years at Villanova University. Matt brings you timely, outside the beltway analysis of our national politics, informed by history and social science, to help you make sense of what often feels like an out-of-control world. Together, we run the Bowers Kerbel Media collaboration, a joint effort between Bowers News Media and Wolves and Sheep. Matt and I are old friends, and even wrote a book together about a decade ago. | ||
