Money laundering

- Epstein was trying to buy a South Florida estate. Trump’s entire empire in 2004 was teetering on the edge of bankruptcy.

- Trump was coming up with $41 million to buy this property. Epstein suspected that Trump was acting as a front for a Russian oligarch as a money-laundering scheme and threatened to sue Trump, bringing the money laundering to light.

- Trump did purchase and flip the estate two years later to a Russian oligarch named Dmitry Rybolovlev for $95 million, or a profit of over $50 million dollars.

- Epstein suspected the money laundering scheme. So he threatened Trump that he would bring the whole thing out into the open through a series of lawsuits.

- Right about this same time authorities got a tip about Epstein’s activities which started the investigation that led to his eventual 2008 plea deal. - Josh Marshall TPM

- Trump paid $41 million for the place in November 2004

- Trump's initial asking price was $125 million. By the time Trump listed the property, in early 2006, the real estate market was already cooling off.

- In 2008, Trump found a solution to his problem in the form of one of the world’s hundred richest men: a 41-year-old Russian billionaire named Dmitry Rybolovlev with an estimated worth of $13 billion.

- He would pay Trump $95 million for Maison L’Amitie in what was widely described as the most expensive U.S. residential property sale ever. - Politico
