If you've listened to Donald Trump in recent weeks, you would start to think that the United States is going to war with Venezuela. He's authorizing strikes on civilian boats, amassing troops and warships, and even threatening a full aerial blockade over Venezuela — something that would be considered an act of war under international law. And not only is Trump trying to start another war, he's doing so while pretending he's above the law. The constitution gives Congress—and only Congress—the authority to declare war. That's why I'm going to use every tool at my disposal to stop him. This week, I partnered with Rep. Massie (R-KY) and Rep. Castro (D-TX) to introduce a bipartisan War Powers Resolution which would force a vote up-or-down in Congress on Trump's unlawful escalation.
Some claim Trump's escalation is about drugs. Give me a break! He just pardoned the former president of Honduras—a man who helped flood the U.S. with cocaine. But it's all right out of the same-old GOP playbook: invent a pretext for military action, and then spend trillions of dollars–and far too many American lives–on an endless foreign conflict. Americans are sick of it. They want their government to make life affordable at home, not drag us into another war. Trump claimed he would put "America First," but his actions show the exact opposite. We need strong, anti-war voices in Congress to hold him accountable. Will you donate $3 to my campaign today?
