Hi, it's Robert Garcia.
As a proud and patriotic immigrant, I want every kid to have the same shot I had — the shot that allowed me to give back to this country.
But today, millions of kids and families are being denied that same chance. So I’m asking you to stand with me and demand real, comprehensive immigration reform.
My mom brought me to this country not knowing English and without an education. But thanks to a progressive immigration law passed by Congress in the 1980s, we were able to apply for permanent legal residency. I became a U.S. citizen in my early 20s.
That act of Congress changed everything.
America gave me the opportunity to go to school, to serve my community, and to become the first LGBTQ immigrant ever elected to Congress. I know my story isn’t typical, but it should be. I believe every family should have access to that same pathway to success.
Right now, Congress should be an institution that helps people — not one that blocks progress or plays politics with families’ futures. But we’re facing big, structural challenges:
- Generational poverty
- Concentrated wealth and power
- Attacks on democracy
- Systemic racism
- And a fringe minority inside the GOP is determined to stop any meaningful immigration reform
I’ve seen firsthand that coalitions can be built — even when the opposition is entrenched, ideological, and loud. We can do big things when we insist on justice and fight for opportunity.
That’s why I need you with me. Congress cannot keep punting on this. Families cannot wait. Kids cannot wait. Add your name right now to show your support for immigration reform:
