MSPCA-Angell holds emergency two-day adoptathon after animal seizures

The Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is holding an emergency two-day adoptathon after two recent cruelty investigations resulted in close to 150 animals being surrendered.
In one case, 26 animals were seized in August from a property in Winchendon, including 24 dogs and two cats. Seven puppies were born in foster care following the seizure.
The second group of 116 animals was originally removed from a Plympton property in September. The majority of the animals were farm birds, including chickens, turkeys, geese, quails, ducks and one guinea hen. There are also two dogs, two cats, two ferrets, five rabbits and five goats.
Another 100 animals have also been seized in the last few months as part of other investigations, the MSPCA said.
"We really need adopters to come out and give any of the animals in our care — but especially dogs — a happy home to ensure that we’ll be able to say 'yes' the next time that an animal needs help," said Chris Schindler, director of the MSPCA-Angell’s Law Enforcement Department.
To help rehome dogs faster, the MSPCA-Angell will be holding a special emergency adoption event this week across all four of its shelters.
On Friday and Saturday, all dogs in the organization’s care, including puppies, will be available to adopt for a "'pay-what-you-can’ fee." Interested adopters are asked to visit a shelter during open hours, which vary by location.
- Boston Adoption Center: Tuesday-Sunday, noon-3 p.m.
- Northeast Animal Shelter: Daily, 11:30 a.m.-5 p.m.
- Nevins Farm: Tuesday-Sunday, noon-4:30 p.m.
- Cape Cod Adoption Center: Tuesday-Sunday, 1 p.m.-4 p.m.
Those interested in adopting horses or other large farm animals are asked to make an appointment at mspca.org/nevinsadopt.
The MSPCA-Angell is also in need of foster homes. More information on the organization’s foster program may be found at mspca.org/foster.
