S.F. Chronicle: Brooke Jenkins violated penal code by sending case docs before leading Boudin recall

I always knew Brooke Jenkins was corrupt, but I can’t believe what I just read in the Chronicle:   Days before leaving the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office last year, now-interim District Attorney Brooke Jenkins shared confidential information about a case that helped ignite the campaign to recall her predecessor, Chesa Boudin.   Jenkins used her work email to forward unredacted police reports and a rap sheet related to a vehicular manslaughter suspect named Troy McAlister.   McAlister’s case — and his criminal history before a wreck that killed two pedestrians — was used in the campaign to recall Boudin.   State law prohibits the dissemination of records such as rap sheets to people who aren’t authorized to receive them for official purposes.   UC Hastings Law School Professor and author Richard Zitrin said releasing protected information for political purposes would be a violation of the law and ethical standards.   “Anyone who took this record from the D.A.’s office and disseminated it publicly has violated the penal code,” Zitrin said yesterday.    “Prosecutors are law enforcement officers. They have to adhere to standards of confidentiality — both for the protection of law enforcement and for the protection of the criminal defendant. To take a rap sheet for the purpose of disseminating it in a political campaign is grossly inappropriate.”   “This was a fireable offense,” summed up a former San Francisco prosecutor from the Kamala Harris era.    Here’s the bottom line: We can’t let Brooke Jenkins get away with this level of corruption.
