When they came for those with colored skin, I did not flinch because I was not one of them.

When they came for those with colored skin, I did not flinch because I was not one of them.
When they came for the immigrants and refugees, I blocked out their cries because I was not one of them.
When they came for those of the wrong faith, I sat in silent prayer knowing I was not one of them.
When they came for the journalists and scientists, I stifled my voice because I was not one of them.
When they came for the poor, the hungry and the homeless, I thanked God that I was not one of them.
When they came for those who loved differently, I lowered my gaze because I was not one of them.
When they took away women's reproductive rights, I sat in silence because I am not a woman.
On the day they came for me, I stood and wept because I was alone and there was no one left to stand with me.
