A ceasefire between the U.S., Israeli, and Iranian governments is hanging on by a thread:
Peace talks held in Pakistan fell apart without an agreement in place to end the war. Days after Trump threatened genocide against the Iranian people, he has now ordered a naval blockade of Iran. And while the violence paused elsewhere, Israeli strikes have not stopped in Lebanon.
Congress’ failure to rein Trump in has only emboldened him to expand this disastrous, historically unpopular war. But as lawmakers return to Washington, they’ll have crucial opportunities to step in and save lives in a matter of days.
Votes on war powers resolutions (WPRs) are anticipated this week in both the House and the Senate. Previous votes fell short by razor-thin margins, and now, with violence likely to resume if the choice is left up to Trump, we must go all out to demand Congress get off the sidelines and stop war on Iran.
| ACT NOW |
Trump and Israeli PM Netanyahu’s war has killed more than 3,000 people in Iran, including more than 250 children. At least 1,830 have been killed in Lebanon, where violence has not ceased — an infant girl was among those killed by an Israeli military strike at her father’s funeral held after the truce was announced.[1]
It’s a war that Trump seems intent on escalating. He made a genocidal threat towards Iran that “a whole civilization will die” last week. He’s warning that he’ll attack bridges and power plants — plans that, if followed through, would likely amount to war crimes. He’s just ordered a U.S. blockade of Iranian trade through the Strait of Hormuz, jeopardizing a fragile, two-week ceasefire with the Iranian government.
Back home, only one in four people support Trump’s unauthorized, unjustified war, and cracks are emerging within his own base. There’s power in our growing numbers, and this is the moment to use it.
With margins in Congress so close — only four votes separated ayes and nays on the last WPR in the House — every single vote counts.
The same is true in the Senate, where the last WPR was defeated by a 47-53 margin. Since those votes more than a month ago, the political costs of supporting Trump’s war have only risen as impacts of the resulting energy crisis are felt at gas pumps across the country.
By overwhelming congressional offices with demands to end war on Iran and prevent Trump from following through on the war crimes he’s threatening, we can build the majority of lawmakers we need to stop the violence for good and save lives. Are you with us?
Tell Congress: Pass war powers resolutions to stop Trump’s disastrous, illegal war on Iran!
Thank you for working for peace,
The Win Without War team
