It doesn’t include self-employment income, business expenses, itemized deductions, and some other more complex tax situations And it includes a screener tool that will help you quickly confirm whether your tax situation is supported and connect you to alternative filing options if you’re not eligible to use Direct File this year
Last filing season, 15,000 eligible Americans used IRS Direct File. Surveys showed that users found it an easy and helpful service, and Direct File participants saved a total of $5.6 million in tax preparation fees.
